Services → C-41 color

Professional C-41 color film developing

We process C-41 color negative film on professionally maintained equipment with precisely controlled chemistry that delivers consistent, accurate color from every roll.

What is C-41 processing?

C-41 is the standard color negative process used for most color film you'll shoot today. It produces the familiar orange-masked negatives that can be printed or scanned for beautiful color photographs.

The process requires precise temperature control at 100°F (±0.5°F) and carefully timed chemical steps. Small variations in temperature or timing produce noticeable color shifts — which is why professional lab processing produces more consistent results than home development for color work.

Films we process

  • Kodak Portra 160, 400, 800 — The gold standard for portrait and wedding photography. Fine grain, natural skin tones, exceptional latitude.
  • Kodak Gold 200 — The classic consumer film. Warm tones, great for everyday shooting and travel.
  • Kodak Ultramax 400 — Versatile all-purpose film with punchy color and good speed for mixed lighting.
  • Fujifilm Superia 400 — Excellent general-purpose film with strong greens and blues.
  • CineStill 50D, 400D, 800T — Cinema film repurposed for still cameras. Unique halation effect on 800T.
  • All other C-41 compatible films — including expired and specialty stocks.

Frequently asked questions

Can you develop film from disposable cameras?
Yes — disposable cameras use standard C-41 film. Same price as regular 35mm: $10 develop only, $18 with standard scans.
I found old film in my parents' house. Can you develop it?
Probably. Even very old C-41 film (20-50 years) can often be developed, though results vary. Color shifts and fog are common with expired film, but many photographers love the look. Bring it in and we'll take a look.
What's the turnaround time?
Standard turnaround is 5-7 business days. Same-day rush service available for local drop-offs (+$15) — call ahead to confirm availability.

Services → Black & white

Black & white film developing

Black & white photography is where craft meets chemistry. Different developers, different times, different temperatures — each choice shapes the final image. We make those choices with precision.

The craft of B&W developing

Unlike C-41 color processing, which is standardized, black & white developing offers significant creative latitude. The choice of developer affects grain structure, tonal range, and contrast. Push and pull processing can rescue underexposed frames or tame harsh contrast.

Our standard B&W chemistry produces a clean, neutral negative with full tonal range — an excellent starting point for scanning or printing. For photographers with specific preferences, we offer push and pull processing in half-stop increments.

Films we process

  • Kodak Tri-X 400 — The most iconic B&W film ever made. Rich grain, beautiful tonal range, pushes beautifully to 1600.
  • Ilford HP5+ 400 — Slightly finer grain than Tri-X, excellent latitude, very versatile.
  • Kodak T-Max 100, 400 — Tabular grain technology for finer detail. T-Max 400 is exceptional pushed to 1600.
  • Ilford FP4+ 125 — Fine-grain, medium-speed film with beautiful tonal gradation.
  • Ilford Delta 100, 400, 3200 — Modern emulsions with exceptional sharpness. Delta 3200 for low light.
  • Fujifilm Acros II 100 — Ultra-fine grain with exceptional reciprocity for long exposures.
  • All other B&W films — Fomapan, Rollei, Bergger, Shanghai, and more.

B&W pricing

Service35mm120
Develop only$10$18
Develop + standard scan$22$26
Develop + enhanced scan$28$32
Push/pull processing (add-on)+$3+$3

Push processing for B&W

B&W film pushes exceptionally well. Tri-X at 1600 is a classic look — higher contrast, more grain, a gritty aesthetic that's been the foundation of photojournalism for decades. We push up to +3 stops. Just mark your canister with the shooting ISO.

For RISD and URI students

Many RISD photography students and URI film students trust us with their B&W work. We understand the requirements for class projects — tight deadlines, consistent quality, and scans suitable for critique and display.

Volume discounts apply: 10% off at 10 rolls, 15% off at 25 rolls.

Services → E-6 slide film

E-6 slide film processing

Slide film produces the most vivid, accurate color in all of photography. The colors you see on the transparency are the final image. We're one of the few labs in New England that still processes E-6.

Why E-6 processing is rare

E-6 reversal processing is technically demanding. It requires six chemical baths at precise temperatures, with tighter tolerances than C-41. A half-degree deviation can shift your Velvia greens into yellow or your Ektachrome blues into cyan. Most labs have dropped E-6 because the volume doesn't justify the maintenance. We haven't.

Slide films we process

  • Kodak Ektachrome E100 — Clean color, fine grain, excellent scanning characteristics.
  • Fujifilm Velvia 50, 100 — Legendary saturated color and contrast. Landscape photographers' film of choice for decades.
  • Fujifilm Provia 100F — More neutral than Velvia, with fine grain and accurate color.
  • All other E-6 compatible reversal films — including expired and specialty stocks.

Slide mounting available

We offer 35mm slide mounting in standard 2x2 mounts for projection or archival storage. Add $5 per roll.

Frequently asked questions

Can you cross-process E-6 film in C-41 chemistry?
We can, but we advise against it for anything important. Cross-processing produces unpredictable color shifts. If you want experimental color, shoot C-41 film and adjust in post for more controlled results.
How should I expose slide film?
Slide film has much less exposure latitude than negative film — about ±1 stop. Meter carefully and err toward slight underexposure rather than overexposure. Blown highlights on slide film are unrecoverable.
I'm coming from Boston specifically for E-6. Is it worth the drive?
Many of our E-6 customers come from the Boston area — about 60 minutes on I-95. If you'd rather not drive, our mail-in service works great. USPS Priority Mail from Boston typically arrives next-day.

How we deliver your scans

All scans are delivered digitally via a secure download link emailed to you. Links remain active for 30 days. For large orders, we can also provide scans on USB drive (+$10).

Why Noritsu scans matter

Noritsu scanners are the industry standard for professional film scanning. They produce cleaner, more accurate color than flatbed scanners or DSLR scanning setups. The auto-exposure and color correction algorithms have been refined over decades. A single Noritsu scan will often produce better results than hours of home scanning.

Enlargements

For prints larger than 8x10, we recommend having your negatives scanned at enhanced resolution first. This gives us the maximum detail to work with and ensures your enlargement is sharp at viewing distance.

Paper and quality

All prints are made on professional archival photo paper rated for 100+ years of display life. Matte finish reduces glare and works beautifully in frames. Glossy delivers maximum color saturation — ideal for portfolios and displays behind glass.
